Djamel Berkaoui is a research assistant in the Department of Engineering Hydrology at RWTH Aachen University. In addition to research, the department and the UNESCO chair focus on the tasks of digital teaching. In this area, new methods (e.g. avatar-based teaching and learning) are designed, developed, implemented and made available to the general public for open use.

The open source software for avatar-based teaching and learning in virtual reality enables students and lecturers to communicate, teach and learn with each other in VR using avatars and a wide variety of teaching and learning scenarios. The application shows how blended learning and digital teaching can be more than zoom meetings and video presentations.
